Assistant
The Assistant turns speech into a conversation or an action. You speak with the Assistant hotkey or a trigger word; Super Voice Mode sends the request to your selected backend and shows the reply. Voice Output can speak the reply aloud.
Choose a backend
Section titled “Choose a backend”Open Dashboard → Agents and select the backend that fits the task:
| Backend | Best for | Where processing happens |
|---|---|---|
| Claude | Agent work with files, commands, and tools | Through your Claude setup |
| Codex | Coding and agent work with files and tools | Through your Codex setup |
| Cursor | Agent work through your existing Cursor login | Through Cursor |
| OpenCode | Agent work through your configured providers | Through OpenCode |
| Hermes | Memory, skills, and tools from a configured gateway | On that gateway and any services its tools use |
| Ollama | Private local conversation | On your Mac or configured local server |
| Local MLX | Private conversation using the bundled local model | On your Mac |
Ollama and Local MLX do not have agent tools. Use Claude, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, or Hermes when you want the Assistant to inspect files or act through tools.
Start an Assistant turn
Section titled “Start an Assistant turn”Choose either method:
- Hold the Assistant hotkey, speak, and release.
- Hold the normal Dictation hotkey and begin with your configured trigger word.
For example, if the trigger is “computer,” say “computer, summarize the selected paragraph.”
Read and hear the response
Section titled “Read and hear the response”The response appears in the activity drawer. When Voice Output is enabled, it is also spoken on your Mac. Structured drafts can stream into Slate when Slate is open.
Say the configured cancel phrase when you want to stop an in-progress response and its spoken playback.
Connect Super Voice Mode tools
Section titled “Connect Super Voice Mode tools”External agents can receive only the toolsets you enable under Dashboard → Agents → Agent Tools. Voice and Meetings are enabled by default. Mutation tools ask for consent before changing Super Voice Mode state.
An agent keeps its native tools. Super Voice Mode adds voice, meeting, setting, and computer capabilities where enabled; it does not replace the agent’s own file or coding tools.
Usage limits
Section titled “Usage limits”Assistant turns are unlimited during the 14-day trial and with Pro Lifetime. After the trial, Free includes them in the shared allowance of 50 Pro uses each week. Computer Use inside an authorized in-app Assistant turn does not consume an extra use.
Pro tips
Section titled “Pro tips”- Match the backend to the job. Use a tool-capable agent for action and a local backend for private conversation.
- Use the trigger word for occasional questions. Use the dedicated Assistant hotkey when Assistant work is frequent.
- Cancel early when a response goes in the wrong direction. This stops generation and spoken playback.
- Enable the Concise augment for voice. Shorter answers are easier to follow aloud.
- Be explicit about irreversible actions. Ask for a draft or preview first when you want to review the result.
