Get Started

Your first goal is simple: speak one sentence and see it appear in another Mac app. Setup usually takes a few minutes, plus the time needed to download your first speech model.

You need:

  • A Mac with Apple silicon.
  • macOS 15 or later.
  • An internet connection for the app and model downloads. Dictation works locally after setup.
  • Enough free disk space for the speech model you choose.
  1. Download Super Voice Mode.
  2. Open the downloaded disk image.
  3. Move Super Voice Mode to Applications.
  4. Open Super Voice Mode. It appears in the menu bar and opens the Dashboard during setup.

macOS may ask you to confirm that you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. This is expected for the signed release.

Follow the setup prompts for:

  • Microphone so Super Voice Mode can hear you.
  • Accessibility so it can paste the final text into the app you are using.
  • Input Monitoring so the global hotkeys work while another app is active.

Screen Recording is optional. It is needed only for Computer Use requests that require a screenshot. You can review permission status later in Settings → Permissions.

Choose a model during setup:

  • Parakeet is the fastest choice for English and European languages.
  • Whisper large-v3-turbo supports 99 languages and can translate speech to English, with higher latency and a larger download.

You can change this later in Settings → Models. The first load can take longer while macOS prepares the model.

  1. Open TextEdit, Notes, Mail, or another app with an editable text field.
  2. Click where you want the text to appear.
  3. Hold Right Option, the default Dictation hotkey.
  4. Say a short sentence.
  5. Release the key.

Super Voice Mode transcribes your speech on your Mac, applies Dictionary and optional AI Correction rules, and pastes the result at the cursor.

For normal dictation, microphone audio, voice activity detection, speech-to-text, Dictionary replacements, and AI Correction stay on your Mac. Model and app downloads, update checks, and license validation require network access. Assistant behavior depends on the backend you select. See Privacy and Local Processing.
